]]>Conchita + Nathan Same Day Premierehttp://aquavivus.com/blog/2010/8/15/conchita-nathan-same-day-premiere.htmlTom2010-08-15T16:28:50ZAfter we received the very first email from Conchita we knew that fun was in store for us.  We just had so much fun saying her name, we knew the wedding would be a blast!  She sent us the playlist for songs they were using and we were excited to see they chose the soundtrack to "Fantastic Mr. Fox" for the ceremony processional. They left the music selection for the Same Day Premiere up to us, so after much deliberation we decided on a song by Fanfarlo called "Finish Line".  It has that whimsical feeling they were going for and it's a pretty catchy tune.  Conchita also asked if we could put the vows in there at some point, so I needed a music track that had an instrumental break.  It worked out perfectly!  These two lovebirds are totally sweet and have a great sense of humor!  We were giggling throughout the day at the little jokes and remarks being made by Conchita and her family.  This Same Day Premiere was powered by fish tacos and some amazing chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting.  So good!  Onto the video!

]]>Miki + Ashleyhttp://aquavivus.com/blog/2010/7/28/miki-ashley.htmlTom2010-07-28T17:00:22ZGood morning!  I don't usually chat about editing on here but this film is a good example of how we go about editing.  Sometimes couples choose music that they want us to use, and other times they leave it up to us.  In Miki and Ashley's case, they left it up to us.  We usually will pick something based off of the music that was played at the wedding (walking down the aisle, first dance, etc).  Miki walked down the aisle to a string quartet version of "Falling Slowly", a song that has some personal meaning to me as well.  The great thing about that song is there are 4 different versions of it (acoustic w/vocals, string quartet instrumental, piano instrumental, and full band w/vocals).  We were able to construct our own music track using all those versions of the song.  

After the music track was laid down, we laid segments of the ceremony and toasts around it to see which fit the best and still told Miki and Ashley's story.  Halfway through the edit, I watched it play back and it didn't seem to really "work".  So we scrapped it and started from scratch, tried some different things, and it ended up working so much better!  We hope you enjoy it, congratulations to Miki and Ashley!

I’m the business manager over here at Aqua Vivus. I also moonlight as a wedding photographer most weekends of the year. That is how I got to know the wonderful peeps at Aqua Vivus and am now a part of the team. What can I say? I’m addicted to weddings and cool imagery (and Aqua Vivus of course!). SOOOOOO, that brings me to my next order of the business. The FABULOUS Mike and Sarah and their awesome wedding at Orfila Winery this last Saturday. My husband and I had the pleasure of photographing the event AND working with Aqua Vivus and their amazing filmmaking skills. WIN (which were in full effect that night. Double WIN). Aqua Vivus rocked the filming as usual and the put together this Same Day Premiere to show at the end of the night. The day might have been super hot but with such a stunning bride, adorable groom, being AHEAD of schedule, the day was perfect. Seriously. Perfect. Don’t believe me? Since the beginning of Cinema, the impact of storytelling through film continues to grow and inspire generation after generation. It is really awesome to look back over history and see where film has come from, where it is going, and then witness the power and enlightenment that it continues posses over a century later. When the Lumiere brothers, (creators of the first motion picture camera) presented one of their first short films to an audience called, Train Entering a Station, the audience literally leapt out of their seats in shock when the train pulled into the station toward the screen. It was so real to them that they actually thought the train was coming into the theater. It marked the beginning of something new—a new way to capture peoples stories, and harnesses the legacies that they leave behind. Furthermore, what I love so much about documentary is that you can be a part of capturing real legacies from real remarkable people through some of the most memorable moments of their life.

When we presented Josh and Marci’s Same Day Premiere on Saturday as a surprise, (not even the DJ knew we were doing it) the whole crowd just moved. The atmosphere at that moment felt magical. The only thing that was announced was that we were playing a love story video of the bride and groom that we had filmed earlier in the year. Once the love story came to an end and transitioned into images of the wedding day itself, the crowed shuttered in shock and excitement. At that moment when we saw the first clips of the bride and groom on screen, I found myself overwhelmed with emotion. There is something truly magical about seeing the most memorable moments of the wedding day just after they happened during the reception. From the pre-ceremony getting ready shots, to the father of the bride walking his daughter down the aisle, seeing these images at the reception brings something to the celebration that just can’t be explained in words. The moments of the day happen so fast, and I’m so glad that technology is at a place where we can capture these special moments for all to see and reflect on before the night even comes to an end. I’m very glad that we can offer this service to the families we work with.

As we’re transferring, converting, and editing the footage our goal is to get the film to not only a viewable state, but one that captures the imagination and takes you away to a place of nostalgia of all the things that you experience during the wedding.  This can be very challenging sometimes - even stressful. But when I see the faces of the bride and groom and their families after we present the film, it’s absolutely worth it. Tom and I were very honored to be a part of capturing Josh and Marci’s wedding day, and I hope we were able to make it that much more memorable.

Brenda's parting words were "thanks for making my dream come true!" It was a day full of surprises, but most of all we were surprised by Brenda's lovely singing voice! She sang a couple of songs dedicated to her husband and her parents. When it was time to show the Same Day Premiere, Brenda asked me (Tom) to announce it. That was definitely a first! I stumbled through my attempt to sound like an MC and then ran over to hit the play button. It went off without a hitch and Brenda was very gracious afterward, giving the audience a little background on our company and what we do. Always nice to get a plug from the bride at her wedding! (although not required!) :) Without further ado, the Same Day Premiere!

]]>Lori + Brockhttp://aquavivus.com/blog/2010/6/16/lori-brock.htmlTom2010-06-16T14:51:42ZGood morning!  It's already summer, I can't believe it.  I spent the past two years living on the beach in San Diego, but last month I moved into the neighborhood of Mission Hills.  I love it here but I'm going to miss the beach lifestyle.  So on that note, I present to you a coastal wedding held in Laguna Beach at Surf & Sand Resort.  Lori and Brock's wedding was a blast.  From the emotional ceremony, Brock's sweet dance moves, to the yummy corndogs I enjoyed it all!  The hardest part about making this film was there was so much good footage to choose from, I didn't want to leave anything out.  Hopefully this edit does the wedding justice, congratulations to Lori and Brock!

Ashley Maxwell, sooo nice and easy to work with!  Rich Amooi, awesome DJ who totally hooked us up at the last second to make this Same Day Premiere sound great!  And the lovely ladies at Testarossa Winery who provided the projection screen, you're all amazing!  Cori and Paul, thanks for having us!  It's funny how you can spend one day with a family and feel like old friends by the end of the night.  We especially enjoyed the cheesburgers, fries, and shakes at the close of the evening!  Here's the movie Cori, I hope your mom enjoys it!
